#7 – Total Recall

I’ve seen the other two films in Paul Verhoeven’s sci-fi trilogy (Robocop, Total Recall, Starship Troopers), but I’ve never seen this movie all the way through. There are a few funny stories about this one however. When I was 9 we were buying our first computer at The Brick. This was playing on one of the TVs and the part with the 3-boobed woman came on. It was the first pair of boobs I ever saw. Gosh I wish I could be that horny again. You can’t describe the sheer ecstasy that rushes through your brain the first time you see two nice knockers, now imagine my ecstasy when I saw three of them. Another story takes place when I was 11 and my 6th grade teacher showed our class the final scene with the guy’s eyes popping out of his skull as an example of atmospheric pressure change. I ran to the back of the room crying because it scared me so bad. What an ass! Honestly, who shows that kind of stuff to a 6th grade class? Anyways, now I finally saw the movie in its entirety. I had to pause it a few times when that 3-boobed woman came on, but I finally finished it. It was pretty darn good too. I mean, it’s exactly what you’d expect from Paul Verhoeven meets the guys who wrote Alien meets Arnold Schwarzenegger. But that’s not really a bad thing. It’s a cool movie and it doesn’t disappoint for fans of any of the above mentioned individuals. It’s as cool and fun as any sci-fi, mystery, thriller with bug-eyed bad guys and 3-boobed women could ever be. It rises above the typical Saturday Afternoon fodder and becomes something a little bit more memorable. Highly recommended.

I liked and remembered this movie. Not only was I a fan of most of Arnold’s 80’s films but I enjoyed this sci-fi action flik more than some others from back in the day. I actually found this on Blu-Ray Disc for $10 at my local Wal-Mart and picked it up. Still have yet to rewatch this but an excellent classic.
